Greenwich Admirals are celebrating after yet another of its young graduates played his first professional game for a top division rugby league club.

Talented youngster Michael Worrincy, who learnt all his rugby league with Greenwich juniors, made his debut for professional side Hull FC in their friendly against York City Knights last week.

Worrincy, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the country, distinguished himself for his new club running hard and making several powerful tackles and showing off his good ball-handling skills and devastating burst of pace.

Competitive loose forward Worrincy made a real impression last year, scoring tries for Great Britain Young Lions against the French and Australians. His success in Greenwich earned him a move first to the London Broncos Academy and then on loan to Hull.

He is at Hull with another former Greenwich junior, Louie McCathy-Scarsbrook, a strong running and big hitting prop forward who last season won the League Express "One To Watch Award".

Worrincy comes from a talented sporting family his brother Rob won the 2003 British Amateur Rugby League Association Youth Player of the Year award and has now won a professional contract along with fellow south Londoner Alex Rowe at Castleford Tigers. Both of them learnt their rugby league playing for Greenwich juniors.

Jason Henley, Greenwich juniors' head coach who has guided all four players since they began in the sport said: "I am extremely proud of the progress these lads have made. They are very willing lads who have earned their success by hard work and their professional mentality. Well done to them all and particularly to Michael for making his professional debut."

Greenwich juniors now have nine outstanding youngsters at the London Broncos Academy, more than any other club, and Henley believes the production line of talent will only continue to roll.

He said: "When I look at the young lads coming through at the club, I can see that many of them have what it takes to succeed in the great sport of rugby league, both in terms of natural ability and mental attitude.

"If they stay mentally tough and keep their professional attitudes then there is no reason why we will not see many more Greenwich juniors having professional careers in the future."

Greenwich Juniors pre-season training was now just beginning. So if you are aged between 10 and 16 and would like to follow in the footsteps of stars like Michael Worrincy then you should come along to training on any Saturday and maybe one day you can be a professional rugby league player too.

No experience is needed because full training will be given by the club's outstanding fully-trained coaching staff. Greenwich Juniors train on Saturday between 10am and noon at the excellent new facilities at the Bexley Business Academy on Yarnton Way in Erith.
