CROW Trees on the south bank of the River Tyne has fast become a decidedly unhappy venue for Blackheath.

Three visits, three poor performances and three defeats, with this particular contest settled within 25 minutes.

By that time Blaydon had scored the third and final try as flanker Scott Riddell benefited from a missed tackle, with what remained of the match dominated by the steady rain which had begun to fall.

Riddell it was who had opened the scoring on just seven minutes when the ball fell loose following a knock-on and sandwiched in between his two efforts was the best move of the match as the stand-out player, Blaydon full-back Adam Dehaty, weaved a channel to cross under the uprights.

Blackheath only got out of the blocks when Tom White dropped a goal on 33 minutes and the full-back, who had moved up to fly-half when skipper Matt Leek had to leave the field early, added a penalty after the interval to reduce the deficit to 19-6.

But the rain, which increased in intensity as the match progressed, and on another day might have been welcomed by the Club pack, made the ball difficult to control and allow for sustained pressure to be built for Blackheath to claw their way back.

Tyson Lewis may have been unlucky on 47 minutes, the wing adjudged to have knocked-on after he'd won the race to the ball which had been kicked across the goal-line.

But it was the closest either side came to a try in a second period full of unforced errors, and the only remaining score came from the boot of Blaydon centre Andy Baggett with a 58th minute penalty.

Blackheath now enter a crucial period of three home matches over the next four Saturdays, starting with the visit of Wharfedale to Rectory Field next week in a 2.30pm kick-off.
