MORE than 150 competitors took part in Dartford & White Oak Triathlon Club’s ‘Fast and Furious’ duathlon last Sunday.

The race, which signals the end of the main competitive races of the club’s season, consists of a 5km run, a 22km bike and then another 5km run.

Covering the same undulating course through the Darenth valley as in previous years, the race was run in ideal conditions, with early threats of rain soon dissipating.

The race started and finished at Anthony Roper Primary School in Eynsford and athletes left in three waves to avoid congestion on the course.

Scott Cousins won the event in a blistering time of 1hr05m19s, setting a new course record by over a minute and beating the host club’s Andrew Walpole, who also beat the previous course record.

First female home was Lara Hawkings from Dartford & White Oak Tri, who put in a great performance, also beating the women’s previous course record by over two minutes.

Her time ogf 1hr14m was just two seconds ahead of seconds ahead of second-placed Claire Elms.

Race organiser John Setford said: “This was our most successful Duathlon so far with over 150 entrees on the start list.

“Duathlons represent a great way to try a multi-sport event without having to overcome a swim leg, often the discipline which puts most people off.”

Full results of the event can be found on the club’s website at whiteoaktri.co.uk, where information can also be found on the next event scheduled for April 2010.
