SHORTLANDS Golf Club’s ladies' nine-hole section recently won the Tappen Trophy.
This prestigious knockout competition has an entry of 50 clubs from the whole of Kent.
Ironically, Shortlands had been left out of the draw and it was only the last minute representations of team captain Jenny Williams which ensured they finally got in.
The core team of nine ladies played in six rounds, including away trips to challenging courses such as Chart Hills, Lamberhurst, Langley Park and Sundridge Park.
Success in the event means Shortlands became the first nine-hole club to win in 14 years.
Coupled with the success of junior club champion, 10-year-old Harvey Byers in Wee Wonders championship at St Andrews, this certainly has been a year to remember at Shortlands GC.
Byers will now go on to compete at the world junior championship at Pinehurst, USA, next year.
For a small club, Shortlands GC is more than punching above its weight.
