DARTFORD Judo Club's Francesca Steggall confirmed her number one GB squad spot after clinching yet another gold at the Great Britain under-20 trials in Sheffield, completing the national hat-trick.

This was Steggall's third national gold of the 2008/2009 season following on from those won at the cadet and senior national championships.

In winning the hat-trick, Steggall also becomes the first Dartford JC member to accomplish the feat of winning all national titles back-to-back.

The medal was important in confirming her position as Great Britain's best under-48kgs player at junior, youth and senior level and at just 18-years-old, she clearly has London 2012 in her sights and is now strongly favoured for the future event.

Steggall made the feat look easy, mastering all her opponents to win each fight in under one minute.

She first saw off competition from Hancocks of Samurai with a powerful forward technique, scoring the maximum ippon to end the fight automatically.

Steggall then beat Wraith of Redbridge in 10 seconds and Kee of Murakwai in 41 seconds, both with the same waki gatame armlock from a standing transition move to the ground.

The final saw Steggall dominate easily again with another armlock in just 22 seconds to take the gold medal and defeat Cole of Redbridge.

Dartford also gained silver medals from Amelia Cook and Craig Holmes.

Cook (under-44kgs) had progressed well, beating all her opponents with a great technical display to reach the final.

The final proved tough and despite a gritty performance, Cook lost to Henderson of Newburn and had to settle for silver.

Cook again is a regular medallist at national level and a national squad member with a bright future ahead.

Holmes was also successful in reaching his final of the under-100kgs category.

A determined effort from Holmes saw him almost clinch gold, but disappointingly he was eventually beaten and was rewarded with the silver to add to his growing collection of national medals.

Seven other members of Dartford Judo club competed and just missed out on medals on this occasion.

They were: Callum Gallie (under-60kgs), Michael Stewart (under-60kgs), Casey Belsey (under-66kgs), Shane Tyler (under-66kgs),Taylor Bell (under-73kgs) and John Hisee (under-73kgs).

Dartford's Ben Wood Gluck was also in action as he travelled to Wales to compete in the Welsh under-20s open championships where he performed well to confidently beat tough and experienced judokas.

Wood Gluck's notable wins came from a penalty victory over Naylor of Glandford Kodakan before going on to beat national squad member Martin from rival club Tonbridge with an explosive ippon throw, finishing the fight at after just two minutess.

He suffered a loss in the semi-final to national team member Rooney, finding himself on the receiving end of an ippon scoring throw after three minutes, but still took his place on the podium with a well-deserved bronze medal.
