WITH Bexleyheath & Belvedere Hockey Club dropping two points last week, it was important to get their title hopes back on track with a win over Blackheath.

The game started off slowly with Blackheath having the better of the play, giving BBHC no time on the ball and preventing it being moved about.

BBHC managed to create a few opportunities, but Blackheath's dominance was showing with the number of short corners they managed to win.

Blackheath finally took the lead after the ball was given away in the left back position, requiring only two quick passes to get the ball into the back of the net.

BBHC continued to fight and seized the opportunity to level the scores before half-time when the initial strike from a short corner was saved, only to be followed up by James Baldwin.

A new look BBHC came out in the second half after a strong talking to at the break.

They moved the ball around swiftly and pressured Blackheath for spells.

BBHC took the lead after a drag flick was converted by Sam Ashenden. Blackheath continued to fight and despite the hard work and silky skills from their forwards, they were unable to convert.

They had a strong penalty stroke appeal but were not rewarded.

BBHC sealed the win by converting another short corner when Andres Labourt wobbled past the onrushing defenders before flicking home.

Blackheath threw everything they had at BBHC for the last 10 minutes, but were unable to convert, leaving BBHC to claim all three points.

The men’s first team were unable to build on their league success when they went out of the Kent Cup 4-2 at the hands of Marden Russets the following day.
