BEXLEY AC’s under-11s joined forces with Days Lane School from Sidcup to represent Bexley at the London region sports hall athletics finals.
The under-11 competitions are run as fun in athletics festivals and this competition lived up to its name.
Bexley’s 25 young athletes took part in running and obstacle races, throwing, jumping and agility events. After nearly three hours of exciting and noisy competition, the Bexley team finished in fourth place in both the girls and boys competitions.
All the events were team scored with two, three or four members in each event.
But Bexley did have one individually top ranked competitor, Aoife Brown scoring a perfect 60 in the balance test. There was also a second spot for Ellis Mills in the ball push (6.75m) and third places for Shania Dodd in the vertical jump (47cm) and Jack Clark in the balance test (53).
Bexley AC hold regular training sessions for nine to 11-year-olds at the David Ives (Erith) Stadium on Sunday mornings between 10am and 11.30am. Meanwhile, nine members of Bexley AC took part in this year’s Canterbury 10-mile road race.
Despite the grim weather, Glen Butler and Martin Jenner continued their marathon preparations with some crestitable times.
Results: 106th - Glen Butler (71m26s); 111th - Martin Jenner (71m37s); 147th - Peter Griffiths (74m02s); 176th - Terry Wardale (75m23s); 252nd - Paul Goss (78m41s); 418th - Dawn Saunders (87m38s); 461st - Doug Colmer; 524th - Breda Goss and 557th – Occles.
