With no league matches taking place in the South London & Kent Pool Alliance this week it was left to individuals to claim some spotlight.

The first honour of the season was decided on Friday at Riley’s in the Sudden Death Singles.

The one frame knock out takes no prisoners, one slip up and you’re out.

Steve Krishnan from Hotshots and Pickwick’s Paul Gafa’ survived a few scares in the early rounds to make it through to the final.

Krishnan took complete control from the break, leaving Gafa’ only containing safety shots.

A rare error from the Hotshots player let Gafa’ back in and he held his nerve to sink the black along the baulk cushion.

On Thursday the battle for the SLKPA Singles Champion got underway at JFK’s Pool Club in Peckham.

Many of the leagues better players assembled to slug it out, hoping to make it to the Finals Night at the end of the season.

Four players emerged from the pack to take their place in the semi final in April.

The Jolly Fenman have a representative after Tony Halpin won 4-2 against Tony Gear of Riley’s, and the George IV will be sending two of their players.

Craig Mallinder won through after a close shave with ex team mate Rob Chalmers and Adam Coppen dispatched Paul Williams 4-1 from the Great Harry.

Mark Eldridge from Hotshots beat Pickwick’s James Sheed to complete the quartet.

New teams are always welcome into the SLKPA, with teams consisting of 5 or more players and matches played on Thursday evenings.

A low budget pilot league is being launched early 2009 to attract more teams into the SLKPA. Team registrations now being taken.
