Eaglesfield Equestrian Centre’s first senior BSJA-affiliated show for more than ten years proved a great success.

Two of the winners were home-based riders. Kathryn McBryde, who is from Gravesend, and her palomino mare Cwrtycadno Mel clinched the Newcomers’ title from Dartford’s Heather Watchorn, aboard Moonlight Raider.

The winning combination proved to be in fine form on this glorious day, as they had been very unlucky in the 1.05-metre open when they just clipped the last fence.

Richard Dabner won the Discovery class with Adam’s Enigma by nearly four seconds, beating Craig Hamilton and Kent Panache. Dabner also notched up a fifth place in the 1.20-metre open on his mount, Oslo.

Dabner has only been back with his horses for three weeks since returning from a six-month spell working at a jumping yard in America.

Amber Dorey, a spokesman for Eaglesfield, which is based in Ash, near Fawnham, said: “We were delighted to attract more than 190 entries and we have now set ourselves a very high standard.

“We did not finish until after eight in the evening, following more than 11 hours of jumping.

“All classes were sponsored and there were some fantastic additional prizes on offer, including rug vouchers provided by Masta and Hunt Rugs.

“Comma Oil & Chemicals, who kindly sponsored the Foxhunter event, presented the first three competitors with lorry care kits containing summer screen wash and glass cleaner.

“We have another show planned for this Sunday, which is restricted to BSJA members, when we can take entries on the day. For more details, call 01474 872242.”
