Hayes Hurricanes were brought down to earth when they were beaten by their counterparts from Wakefield in the third round of the National Knockout Cup.
Premier Division side Wakefield won the toss and put Hayes into bat, and on an unpredictable wicket coupled with some indifferent batting, it was soon obvious that a reasonable score would be out of reach.
Wickets fell regularly and only Susie Rowe, with 16, offered any real resistance but none of her team-mates made double figures, with Hayes being dismissed for just 68.
In reply, Wakefield’s England opener Kathryn Long laid the foundations for her side’s victory with a knock of 29 before she was caught and bowled by Lydia Greenway.
Lydia, bowling magnificently, took three more wickets in the space of two overs before finishing with figures of 4-8.
At 59-6, Wakefield were wobbling a bit and Hayes still had an outside chance of victory. But, crucially, two appeals were turned down and Wakefield reached their target without further loss.
