THE South London & Kent Pool Alliance is fast becoming the most competitive league in the area with a whole host of teams vying to become top dogs.

Yet more twists and turns occurred on Thursday as The George IV A overcame the reigning champions Woolwich Catholic Club A 10-5 to leapfrog them and climb to the summit of the premier division table.

The Hotshots continue to keep the pressure on and regained second place with a comfortable 11-4 win at the Summerfield.

With just two points separating top from third, it's anybody's race.

The Pickwick and Our Lady of the Rosary both believe a good run to the end of season may just see them pinch the crown.

They helped their causes with wins at The Jolly Fenman, where The Pickwick's Ash Hall notched up three wins, and The Kings Arms respectively.

The Rochester Club made sure they didn't get dragged down into the relegation battle with a solid 12-3 triumph against The Blue Anchor A.

Perhaps this week was the one which sees Woolwich Catholic Club B really stake a claim for promotion and the first division title.

Their 14-1 demolition of The Eagle Tavern has put them nine points clear at the top, aided by defeats from their closest rivals The Beehive and The Fox Under the Hill. The Beehive came a cropper against the improving Bellegrove Social Club 7-8 after leading 7-3.

Andy Wise from The Beehive and Bellegrove's Andrew Spellacey entertained the spectators with their potting ability.

The Fox Under The Hill lost by a single frame at home to The George IV B, while Lee Green Constitutional Club kept alive their hopes of promotion by edging out The Blue Anchor B 8-7 in a tight affair.

New teams are always welcome into the league.
