Forest Hill's Cameron Horsman went second in the British Moto3 Championship after finishing second in the two Motostar races at Brands Hatch last week.

Horsman finished behind Scott Ogden in both races in a competitive field.

The races, with all riders competing on standard Honda NSF250R machines, leaves Horsman on 85 Championship points, ten behind Ogden.

Cameron Horsman said, “It was good to be on the podium again as I was under pressure from Charlie in the first race then several riders in race two. This week we couldn’t keep the pace of Scott Ogden but there are plenty more races to come. I wanted to say thanks to Nova Engineering and Steve Patrickson at SP125 for a great bike.”

Free Practice

Cameron Horsman had just enough time to complete four laps of the Brands Hatch GP circuit in free practice one. However, his lack of track time during the session wasn’t because of a mechanical problem but because Horsman was finishing his last A-level. He finished tenth quickest.

Free of his academic duties for the second free practice session Horsman registered a time of 1:37.665 which placed him second at the end of the first day.

Qualifying

31 riders took to the Brands Hatch GP circuit for qualifying, first thing on Saturday morning. Horsman began to wind up his speed throughout the session. He called into the pits to make some minor adjustments before setting a series of fast laps at the tail end qualifying. He broke below the 1:38 barrier in qualifying with a best lap of 1:37.972. This put him fourth in the standard Moto3 class.

Race One

There was a 12 lap race on the Saturday. Horsman made a solid start to the race and was hotly pursued by Charlie Farrer. Their main rival in the race, Scott Ogden tagged on to the back of a GP class rider. As Farrer and Horsman disputed second place Ogden was able to continue to pull away at the front of the standard class race. As it came to the final few laps and after several changes of position Horsman came through Clearways and out dragged Farrer to the line to take a hard fought second place.

Race Two

The track for race two was dry despite earlier rain and all the riders lined up on slick tyres. Horsman again got away well. This time Farrer had a technical issue and retired from the race early. However, Horsman couldn’t rest because he had three other standard class riders in close contention. Again the race leader Ogden was able to breakaway so Horsman did his best to manage his position. Despite the close attentions of Franco Bourne, Harvey Claridge and Rhys Irwin during the race Horsman held them off to take another second place.

His next race is at the Scottish circuit of Knockhill on 28 – 30 June.
