The South London & Kent Pool Alliance Winter Season culminated in the League Cup Final this week at Hustlers in Woolwich.

This is a competition specifically for the lower division sides, with Division Two champions, Bellegrove Flyers facing Crayford Social Club Rugrats, who won promotion to the Premier Division.

The match started with Mark Kelley making two mistakes which were promptly punished by Adam Hewson to put Rugrats one up.

Pat Firth was always on the back foot against Kevin Saunders and he almost nicked the frame but poor position on his last yellow let Saunders in for the equaliser.

Frame three see-sawed, with Keith Mitchell and Scott Shephard battling it out for supremacy but a long pot by Mitchell was way off the mark, giving the Rugrats Captain an opportunity to clear his final three yellows and the black.

Mark Knevett produced a fine five ball clearance before potting the black to give Rugrats the set and a, 3-1 lead.

Graham Lamb failed to capitalise on some poor safety play from Steve Gibson but still took the frame to bring the Flyers to within one.

The second set started with a scrappy frame that Hewson eventually took, to give himself two out of two and put his team, 4-2 up.

Saunders and Firth faced each other again and the result was the same, with Saunders winning his second frame to keep Flyers in the match at, 4-3.

Shephard cleared all his colours quickly in frame eight but missed the black, giving Peter Gray the opportunity to come back and after three successful snookers he should have finished the frame, however he went in off on his penultimate red, leaving Shephard an easy black to become the third player in a row to win both their frames.

Luke Chantler rattled the black for Flyers but it wasn't a forgone conclusion, as Knevett had to pull off two audacious pots before finishing with the easy black to score an unbeaten brace and give Rugrats a, 6-3 lead.

Lamb and Gibson renewed their battle in frame ten and it was a battle, with both players taking control throughout the frame but Lamb eventually took the frame to make every player in this set unbeaten on two out of two and bring Flyers back to, 6-4.

Mitchell couldn't make the most of multiple two shots and Hewson performed a superb cut on the black to give himself an unbeaten hat-trick and leave Rugrats one away from victory.

The next frame was understandably tense, as both Kelley and Firth jostled to get the upper hand, with Kelley finally achieving that, pulling it back to, 7-5.

A 100% record was on the line in frame thirteen, as Saunders took on Shephard and Saunders pulled off an outrageous pot on the black, while Shephard still had five reds on the table, to keep his record intact and put Flyers just one frame behind Rugrats.

Knevett was looking for a hat-trick to lift the cup for Rugrats but Marsh fought for his life and it paid off, with a lovely five ball clearance and the black to send the match into a final frame decider.

Lamb met Gibson for the third time but this time it was for the match and with Lamb having won the previous two frames the odds were in Flyers favour.

The frame epitomised the match overall, with both players sitting in the driving seat in a tactical battle.

Unfortunately Lamb was looking to play a dead weight safety but the cue ball rolled off wickedly, missing his yellow, thus handing Gibson the frame and Rugrats the cup, 8-7.

It was such a shame for such a great game to finish in such a fashion but it was a superb advert for the league, played in the true spirit of the game.
