All three of Blackheath's sevens teams eventually lost out to opponents from the USA in their recent tour of Mexico.

The visit to the Cancun Sevens was made at the invitation of the Mexican Rugby Federation in support of the Dual Year initiative by the governments of Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Both men's teams fought their way to the semi-finals.

Blackheath A had conceded only one try in the group stage and quarter-final before narrowly losing a tightly contested match to Black and Blue Rugby.

After some fine displays Blackheath B went down to eventual tournament winners Tiger Rugby.

The Blackheath women's team also suffered defeat at the hands of Tiger Rugby, who also went on to lift the trophy for the women's competition.

During the two days leading up to the tournament, the tour party managed to fit in three rugby clinics in the Cancun region.

Children attending the Leonardo Da Vinci school in Cancun were introduced to the game of rugby by the Blackheath squad.

Two club sides from Cancun, Hurakan and Spartanas, received coaching in the finer technical points of the game and the Mayan jungle village of Chanchen played host to a Blackheath rugby clinic made hugely popular by an effervescent Club squad.
