GAMES: Bexley collected two medals at the London Youth Games last weekend, including gold in sailing at the regatta.

The sailors competed across the two days against 24 other London boroughs, knocking previous champions Tower Hamlets off of top spot into third while Hillingdon came second.

Team manager Dudley Davies said: “We weren’t really expecting this, it comes as a bit of a shock but we are very pleased.

“The kids are really happy because we’ve put in a lot of preparation all through the year.

“This event gives them something to work towards.

“They need goals to go for and they’ve achieved their goal this weekend.”

And there was more podium success for Bexley with a silver in the judo contest, as well a individual gold medals from Teddy Gibbons, Thomas Deveney, James Cook and William Kurowski.

Judo team manager Dave Dunsford said: “The London Youth Games are very important because it goes back to the schools and they all realise they can be in something that’s great and exciting.”

Meanwhile, Greenwich won silver in the female judo contest at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

They began the day as defending champions, but despite individual gold medals for Georga Halloumas and Samantha Cabell, it was Sutton who came away with the title.

Greenwich manager Mick Murphy was still delighted with his charges, though.

He said: “I’m pleased for the girls, we’ve been training since January with lots of training sessions, getting all the players together as a group and as a team.

“We’ve got girls from different clubs all over Greenwich, getting them all together as one big happy family to represent the borough.”

FOOTGOLF: UK number one Clinton Moore notched up two regional open wins in a row at Chelsfield Lakes Footgolf in the south east open.

Nick Iron secured third place following a dramatic play-off hole.

CRICKET: Bexley CC U11 girls finished third out of 12 in the Kent U11s festival at Gravesend CC on Sunday.

Narrowly losing the first group match against Tunbridge Wells and then another disappointing reverse against Plaxtol was not exactly the kind of start Bexley had planned.

However, a big win over Gravesend Pearls put them back on track and they were deemed the best of the runner-ups in the three groups to secure a wild card into the last four.

Losing the first match against St Lawrence & Highland Court gave Bexley a return fixture with Tunbridge Wells for the third/fourth place play-offs and they took their revenge with victory in a tight finish.

GYMNASTICS: Gym Club Gymnastics in Biggin Hill picked up a medal at their very debut appearance at the London regional floor and vault competition.

As well as the silver medal, the club’s successes also included a fourth place ribbon, a trio of top three highest floor scores, half a dozen top ten listings and ten white pins.
