BELVEDERE fighter Chris Jones promises he will be in the shape of his life when he steps through the ropes to challenge Surrey’s Roo Abbott for the Queensbury Boxing League’s novice super middleweight title.
The 21-year-old floor layer, who is trained by former British super bantamweight champion Matt Marsh, has made rapid progress during his short time in the competition.
Jones has racked up several impressive performances since joining the QBL back in April and after disposing of Hertfordshire’s Roger Smith last time out, has been handed his first title shot after impressing the shows promoters.
The man facing Jones at the league’s big pre-Christmas event on November 24 is no stranger after the pair shared several rounds of sparring together back in June as they both prepared for their last league appearances.
And the Belvedere ace is under no illusions he will need to be at his best if he is to return home as the champion.
Jones said: “After sparring Abbott just before my last fight I know what I’m up against.
“I think we are both at a similar level in terms of skill and strength, so it’s going to be a great fight.
“This is the hardest I’ve trained for any of my fights in the league and I’ve been focussing on getting as much sparring as possible to ensure I’m going to be 100 percent ready for of November 24.
“So far the training has been absolutely perfect and I’m looking forward to the fight.”
Jones’ challenge for the novice super middleweight title will feature on the packed undercard of boxing taking place at the Effingham Park Hotel near Crawley.
With 14 other bouts scheduled to feature on this bumper night of action, there will be no shortage of entertainment for fight fans to enjoy.
