Although there were no promotion or relegation issues at stake, Welling United visited Chippenham Town looking to finish with a win.

Sadly, it was not to be as they again struggled to create clear cut opportunities.

In the opening minute, Matt Smith chanced his arm for the hosts from outside the area with an effort that went over.

Moments later Welling had an opening when Jack Parkinson found Bradley Goldberg who spun but shot over.

Jake Jackson burst through for the Bluebirds but dragged his shot wide as the game continued to be end to end. Then Goldberg headed over from Jack Jebb's diagonal ball.

Matt Smith sent in a free kick that Greg Tindle headed well off target then Jon Beeden's header flew high over the bar from Andy Sandell's cross as Chippenham tried to dominate.

However, Welling were soon back on the attack and Archie Johnson found Jamie Philpot who held up well for Jebb to fire in a shot that sizzled over.

It was from another Welling attack that Chippenham went ahead. A clearance sent Smith away and his pass found Jake Jackson bursting forward. He, in turn, picked out Sandell who fired home beyond Bailey Vose.

Michael Jones looked to ram home the advantage but his shot was beaten out by Vose but Sandell was unable to finish.

At the other end Jebb crossed, Jack Parkinson flicked on and Jamie Philpot met with a diving header that Jared Thompson saved.

Jones again threatened with another cross that Ben Jefford headed out as far as Beeden but his first time volley went well wide.

Callum Driver had a shot blocked out as far as Jebb but his first team effort drifted wide then Joe Healy sent a curler over after Goldberg was crowded out.

Beeden had the last chance of the half when collecting Kaid Mahamed's cross but Jefford was alert to the danger and came out quickly to block.

Early in the second period, Philpot held up play well before Healy joined in, took his pass and played in Goldberg. The striker, without a goal since mid-February, thought that he had broken the barren run when curling towards the far post but Thompson got across to make a brilliant save to tip around the post.

Another good Welling move allowed Jebb to get a cross in but Philpot was unable to keep his header down and it went over.

Mohamed shot over from a Smith pull back for the hosts then Driver hit a fierce shot wide for Welling before a moment of madness saw the Bluebirds hampered with twenty-three minutes remaining. Beeden and Driver went in for challenge and after the ball had gone, Beeden kicked out. The referee saw it and had no option than to dismiss the Bluebirds' player.

Despite their numerical advantage, Welling struggled to create anything and looked in danger whenever Chippenham broke.

First Smith shot high and wide after a great counter by Mohamed.

As the game came to a close Robbie Patten gave Smith one last chance but Vose did well to make an excellent save with his foot.

That was the last chance of the game as Welling finished the season with another disappointing result.
