BEXLEY enjoyed a successful weekend at the London Youth Games by winning silver in the trampolining finals.

Olivia Bell and Georgina Keenan finished in the top 10 of the individual standings, while elder Keenan sister Charlotte came 16th and Emma Sullivan finished well to ensure Bexley team finished with a medal.

Team manager Keith Sleafer, who has been coaching Bexley's trampoline squad every year since the London Youth Games started in 1977, was overjoyed with his team.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted.

“We narrowly missed out on bronze last year and this year we had to bring in two new performers at a late stage.

“The girls have worked really hard this year, it’s absolutely amazing they’ve been trying to intermix it with their GCSE exams which has been quite disruptive but they’ve been putting in extra hours after school.”

Bexley boys’ hockey squad secured a place at the National Sports Centre in Crystal Palace for the London Youth Games Finals on July 7, despite two early defeats to Hammersmith & Fulham and Hillingdon.

They rallied well and play good hockey including big 5-0 wins over Westminster and Lambeth.

Bexley’s tennis team went through their group unbeaten despite being disrupted due to rain and they have already improved on their 17th place finish last year and will join the hockey boys at Crystal Palace next month.

Meanwhile, the Bexley boys’ squash team secured their spot at the finals with an unbeaten run in their group stage including an impressive 2-1 wins against Haringey and Richmond, both of whom finished higher in last year’s London Youth Games.

Team manager Gill Appleby is happy her team is going to Crystal Palace.

She said: “I am really pleased, the guys are doing very well.

“They are really proud to represent the borough.

“They have represented Bexley before in different sports and to get to the Finals in squash is great.”
