EBBSFLEET United recorded their third win of the season with a 2-0 victory over AFC Telford United in an entertaining game on a chilly Saturday afternoon at New Bucks Head Stadium.

Despite not having as much possession as their hosts, Ebbsfleet created more chances and could easily have added to Jamie Darvill and Calum Willock’s goals.

Manager Liam Daish made one change from the side which started the draw against Luton, with Ricky Shakes returning from international duty with Guyana to replace the injured Giannoulis Fakinos.

Telford manager Andy Sinton fielded a 4-4-2 formation which featured former Fleet defender Will Salmon at right-back.

The visitors came close to making a perfect start in the opening minutes when the ball found its way to Darvill, but his close range volley was well saved by Telford keeper Ryan Young.

However, Darvill made no mistake when presented with his next opportunity.

Midway through the half, a long pass from Yado Mambo found Willock inside the box.

The striker did well to flick it onto Darvill, whose first shot was parried by Young but the recent signing fired the rebound into the roof of the net to score his first goal for the club.

Following the goal, Telford dominated possession but always looked vulnerable on the counter-attack.

Darvill and Michael West both fired over from the edge of the area as the visitors created chance after chance.

The closest the hosts came to equalising came a minute before half-time when Courtney Pitt played in Greg Mills, but the winger’s shot was cleared off the line by Mambo.

Telford began the second half strongly and had a succession of corners but were unable to carve out any chances from them.

Willock punished them for this on 56 minutes when he ran onto a through ball from the impressive Darvill and smartly tucked a shot into the bottom corner of the goal.

Striker Willock then had a chance for his second when he tried to lob Youn but the keeper managed to claw the goal-bound effort away.

Victory lifts Fleet out of the drop zone and up to 19th in the Conference table.
