Corinthian Casuals 1 v 2 Cray Wanderers

Ryman League Division One

CRAY boss Ian Jenkins remains upbeat about his team's chances of reaching the play-offs, despite the odds being stacked against them, writes Tim Ashton.

Victory at bottom-of-the-table Casuals saw Cray climb to eighth in Ryman League Division One just six points off the promiseland.

However, the teams around them have at least two, and in some cases three, games in hand.

Jenkins said: "We have got to play the teams around us and if we take points off them obviously we get closer.

"So I don't think the games in hand would make a difference because we'd be beating them ourselves.

"We have just to win our games and if we do we'll definitely be in the play-offs although our goal difference could be vital."

Cray have the third best scoring record in the league with 65 goals however, they have the sixth worst defensive record conceding 62.

It means their goal difference of +3 is inferior to the pack chasing the play-off spots.

Jenkins said: "Last year we conceded 45 goals and scored 95.

"We're scoring enough goals but conceding far too many which not going to help us get in the play-offs."

Cray entertain table-toppers Ramsgate at Hayes Lane this Saturday.

Jenkins said: "Ramsgate lost on Saturday and they drew last night so they're on a poor run and we're going into the game pretty confidently.

"We're creating chances and we're putting them away so I am very confident about the match."

Against the Casuals second half goals from David Gray and 41-year-old Gary Abbott sandwiched Jamie Keith's leveller.
