Beckenham 0 v 1 Tunbridge Wells

Kent Senior Trophy Semi-Final

A LACKLUSTRE Beckenham display was no match for a solid Wells performance, writes Ian Muir.

Beckenham started brightly producing three clear cut chances in the first 15 minutes.

The visitors were playing deep, fighting for every ball and relying on a breakaway but they rarely threatened and were reduced to shooting from range.

Town's Dean Lodge looked impressive as he got down both flanks ghosting past defenders and delivering good crosses but it was clear although Town were dominating, the sparkle was missing.

With 10 minutes to go to the break Junior Kadi dropped a ball into Ohran Stewart's path who hit his first-time shot straight at the Well's keeper.

The first half was a frustrating one for Town but the visitors appeared to gain strength from keeping Beckenham out.

Beckenham wasted no time in testing the Wells defence in the opening few minutes of the second period as Jake Daniels pushed forward cutting and combining well with Paul Vines.

It looked as if it was not going to be Town's day when, after an hour, Lodge limped off injured.

With 12 minutes to go, the visitors scored the winning goal against the run of play.

A long ball to Well's lone striker did not look as if it would trouble Town but as Rob Tolfrey came out to retrieve the ball the forward headed into an empty net.

This result did not go down well as the Beckenham side were kept in the changing room afterwards for more than an hour by manager Gavin Rose.

Beckenham Town play Hythe Town next Saturday at Eden Park Avenue, 3pm kick off.
