WELLING United's home hoodoo continued on Saturday with a goal-less draw against Bishop's Stortford.

The Park View Road faithful had hoped a change of manager might improve Welling's miserable home record they have won just two of their 14 games played there this season but Adrian Pennock has, so far, fared little better than his predecessor Paul Parker.

Given that Stortford lie just outside the promotion places, however, this could conceivably be considered one point gained rather than two lost.

Wings nearly got off to a flying start in the first minute when Lee Spiller was presented with a glorious opportunity, but he shot wastefully wide.

Ten minutes later Welling thought they had broken the deadlock when recent signing Chris Moore appeared to have diverted Matt Lovell's free-kick beyond the reach of Andrew Young in the Stortford goal.

However, Moore was adjudged to have handled the ball, and the towering defender was cautioned for his troubles. The only other chance of note in the first period fell to Lovell, but Young was equal to the task.

The goalkeeper was again called into action ten minutes into the second-half when Wings striker Paul Booth fired off a shot from 25 yards out, whilst at the other end Stortford striker Boniek Forbes was booked for play-acting.

Tommy Tyne then went close for the home side, and with just two minutes of time remaining the best chance of the game fell to the same player, but he shot wide with the goalkeeper stranded and the goal gaping.

The draw was Welling's sixth of the current campaign, and leaves them sixth from bottom in the Conference South Division.

This Saturday, Welling travel to promotion-chasing Weymouth for a league game, kick-off 3pm.
