Four-nil was a false scoreline in a close-fought game at Horsham, but the fact remains that Cray are stuck in the relegation zone of the Ryman Premier table and are without a win since 22 September.

There was little to choose between two shot-shy teams in a dull first half, and then it was the Wands who started to get on top after the interval.

Cray defenders Steve Aris and Colin Luckett went the closest to scoring, each time from set-pieces.

Cray's afternoon began to unwind when the Hornets took the lead from a breakaway attack against the run of play in the 64th minute.

Lewis Wood's shot went just off target in the 86th minute, as the Wands pushed upfield to try and get back in the game.

Cray were always vulnerable to Horsham breakaway attacks down the slope, and were punished by a three-goal avalanche that put the game out of reach during the closing minutes.

Cray have a chance to pick up the pieces when they travel to Chatham Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm) in the Ryman League Cup 2nd round.

After that the Wands entertain bottom of the table Bognor Regis Town next Saturday (3pm).
