EBBSFLEET United’s new Secretary has told News Shopper the loss of the Setanta money will have an impact at Stonebridge Road.

The Irish broadcaster held the rights to broadcast Conference games but last night the company was put into administration, giving all of non-league’s top tier clubs a major unwanted headache.

Mr Danzey said: “I think it is going to affect most of the clubs in the Conference.

“It was only last night that they’ve gone into administration, so any hopes of a rescue deal have obviously gone.

“Sixty to seventy thousand pounds to Ebbsfleet is obviously going to have some affect on the budget unless some other plan comes into fruition.”

The MyFC membership gave the green light to sell Darius Charles and Darius Charles for £80,000 to an unnamed club this lunchtime to improve the budget manager Liam Daish has to spend on wages for next season.

News Shopper understands the collapse of Setanta will not impact on where the money from the transfer will go and it will still be set aside to increase the wage budget.

Daish has only several weeks to get the right people in but Mr Danzey is confident the manager will come up trumps.

He said: “Liam is busy on the telephone. I’ve actually taken a few calls from players who have phoned up asking about trials and I’ve obviously passed them on to Liam.

“It is going to be a younger element of player who is probably going to come to the club and I think that may be a good thing.

“Liam Daish built a team when he first came here and he is going to be doing it again.”

Mr Danzey also revealed he had discussed the Secretary position with his predecessor Roly Edwards before agreeing to take the role.

“I spoke to Roly to make sure there wasn’t a hidden agenda as to why he left and he assured me there wasn’t,” Mr Danzey explained.

“He felt it was just time for a change because he has had 12 years in the job, so after speaking to Roly I phoned up John Moules on the Wednesday morning after speaking to him on the Tuesday and accepted the job.”
