Bromley 1-0 Dorchester Town

BROMLEY scraped through to a single goal victory against Dorchester Town on Saturday at Hayes Lane.

But it will be the visitors who returned home to Dorset feeling they should have had something out of the game, especially in the first half when they wasted several opportunities and, towards the end of the game, when they dominated.

Mark Goldberg made just one change to the starting line-up to last week’s fixture at St Albans City with newcomer Ryan Myers coming in for the injured Jerrome Sobers.

Bromley did not get going and it was the visitors who should have taken the lead as early as the third minute when Rob Gillman under hit a back pass.

Ryan Moss seized on the ball, only to find keeper Gareth Williams quickly out of his goal to block his effort.

Jamie Gleeson and Wes Fogden then went close for Dorchester as Bromley were pushed back before Ashley-Paul Robinson was narrowly wide with a 30-yard drive in the home side’s first attack after 20 minutes.

The visitors should have taken the lead in the 27th minute when Robinson was dispossessed and a quick break down the right flank ended with Williams blocking Moss’s shot following a deep cross to the far post.

A good flowing movement saw Robinson’s cheeky chip go just wide of the upright, before Bromley scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute against the run of play.

Warren McBean took Mark Corneille’s pass in his stride to break clear but he delayed his shot and goalkeeper Gareth Stewart stood up well to block his shot. The ricochet found Adrian Stone, but be contrived to hit the post but fortunately for the home side McBean was on hand to slam home the rebound for his 16th goal of the season.

Bromley had a greater share of the attacking play after the break, which saw Robinson’s 25-yard volley being turned around the post by Stewart and, from the resultant corner, Liam Norval skimmed the crossbar with his header.

But Dorchester came back strongly in the latter part of the game and Williams denied Jamie Mudge’s shot on the turn before the goalkeeper did well at the foot of the post after Darren Watts’s shot had been deflected by Mitch Nicholson.

On 82 minutes, Ryan Dolby cleared Kevin Hill’s header off the line.

Fogden should have snapped up an equaliser three minutes later as two defenders went for the same clearance, only to miss the ball to leave the striker with a clear sight of goal.

However, he somehow put his effort over the crossbar when it seemed easier to find the target.
