CRAY manager Ian Jenkins has conceded his promotion-chasing side were fortunate to pick up a point in Tuesday evening’s 1-1 draw with Sittingbourne.

The Wands took the lead through Tom Bradbrook on 25 minutes and were only denied a second when Richard Brady’s penalty hit the post.

Cray improved after the break and Dean Morris eventually drew them level on the hour.

A win would have taken Jenkins’ side to the top of the Ryman Division One South table, but the boss admitted a share of the spoils wasn’t a bad return after what happened on the night.

He explained: “I’ve got to be honest and say we were lucky to get a point.

“We didn’t play well and I think it was probably one of our worst performances for some time.

“Dean’s equaliser was a deflection and a fortunate one. We never really looked like scoring another one after then, so in truth it was probably a bonus point for us.”

The Wands visit Godalming tomorrow and Jenkins is anticipating a tricky afternoon in Surrey.

He said: “We played them on the opening day of the season and even though we won 3-2, they gave us a really tough game.

“They have improved a lot since we were in the same division a couple of years ago and are having a good season.

“We are going to be without Danny Chapman who has a broken wrist and Jamie Wood is also unavailable because he is going to a wedding.”

And Jenkins has the perfect incentive for the squad to pick up victory – top spot in the table.

He added “Kingstonian don’t play until Sunday, so we know a win tomorrow will make us leaders.

“We’ve got them next Saturday as well and three points at Godalming will also put is in an extremely strong position going into that game, even if Kingstonian beat Sittingbourne this weekend.

“It is nice to be in this position at this time of year. There are a lot of games coming up, but we go into the Christmas period ideally placed.”
