THERE was a thrilling conclusion to the Orpington District Primary Schools’ Cup, when Southborough met their counterparts from Highway in the final played at Orpington Rovers’ ground.

After keeping it very tight during a goal-less half, both teams came out in the second and played like it was a cup final they wanted to win.

Southborough opened the scoring with a superb shot by Jamie Treadgold, and the same player produced another well-hit effort, this time from 20 yards, to double his side’s lead.

Two goals from CJ Campbell gave Southborough an unassailable four-nil lead. But Highway, to their credit, kept attacking and Jack Cooper netted twice for them in the last 15 minutes to give the final scoreline a more respectable 4-2 look.

Perry Scofield Lamoon, captain of Southbourough, said: “The game was played with good attitude by both teams and it was enjoyable to have played in it.

“I would also like to say on behalf of all the boys in our squad, that Southborough School football team has improved over the last couple of years since Steve Kinchin and Simon Jones, from Goals Football Club, took over our coaching.

“They have done an excellent job in coaching the team to its first trophy for six years.”
