Chipstead 1-6 Cray Wanderers, Cray cashed in on the chance to improve their promotion challenge as they slammed six goals past Chipstead on Tuesday evening.

The Wands narrowed the gap behind early-season leaders Kingstonian, who had suffered their first defeat of the season on Monday night.

After capitalising at Chipstead the Wands have moved up to third in the table, with 27 points from 14 games.

Kingstonian have 33 points from 14 games, while second-placed Metropolitan Police have 27 points but have played one game more than Cray.

Cray's goals at Chipstead came from Tony Dolby, Scott Kinch (2), Mark Willy, Colin Luckett from the penalty-spot, and an own goal.

The win completed a superb seven days for the Wands that also saw them beat Folkestone Invicta 3-1 in the Ryman League and Horsham 2-1 in the FA Trophy 2nd qualifying round.

Folkestone were holding second place when Cray defeated them, and Chipstead were another good conquest for Cray having recently reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup where they were knocked out away to Torquay United.

Cray's victories against Tilbury and Horsham in the FA Trophy have literally cashed in, earning prize money of £3,500 each time. In the next round on 22 November the Wands have been drawn at home to Brackley Town.

Cray are next in action this coming Saturday at home to Fleet Town (3pm) in the Ryman League.

Fleet Town's manager Andy Sinton (ex-Spurs and England) has won the Division One South manager of the month award for October, so the Wands will again be facing in-form opponents on Saturday.
