After ten unbeaten league and cup matches unbeaten, Welling United’s run was ended at Slough Town.

In a game of few chances it took a deflected goal to beat the Wings.

Warren Harris appeared to be clear early on but Caden Genovesi did well to get back and usher him away. Then Brendan Kiernan dribbled the length of the pitch for Welling before a crude challenge finished his run.

David Ijaha sliced a clearance towards his own goal but Dan Wilks got down well to save before Kiernan tried to send Nassim L’Ghoul away but Lee Togwell did well to keep him at bay.

Defences continued to dominate and Thierry Audel did very well to ease Harris away as he looked to be in behind again.

Josh Jackman hit a low shot that Wilks saved well then Billy Clifford had a shot that Simon Dunn tried to divert but he only sent it wide of the post.

Ijaha appeared to have been fouled but the free kick was awarded against him and he gave his view a little too strongly to earn himself a caution. George Wells took the free kick but sent it well over

Early in the second half Matt Lench shot into the side netting before Welling made a double change bringing on Bradley Goldberg and Luke Rooney as Welling changed their shape.

Clifford sent a free kick over before Welling finally started to create opportunities. Arnaud Mendy sent over a cross that Danny Mills met with a good header that Jack Turner saved well.

Mills then almost had his shirt removed in the penalty area but nothing was given and almost immediately Slough went ahead. Wilks appeared to have Clifford’s shot covered but it took a deflection to lift it over him and into the net.

Goldberg cut in and shot as Welling looked for an immediate equaliser but his low shot was saved well by Turner.

Then Mills worked his way through but his stabbed shot was well saved by Turner.

Rooney put a free kick onto the roof of the net before Mills headed wide from Craig Braham Barrett’s cross.

As the game drew to a close Rooney’s ball into the area was headed over before Rooney again tried to create an opening but Goldberg was unable to control it with an outstretched leg and the last chance was gone.
