Thierry Audel’s brace appeared to have put Welling United on course for a victory over league leaders Woking but they had to settle for a point.

Substitute Reise Allassani scored a double for the visitors including a last minute equaliser to secure a point that they barely deserved.

Dan Wilks was the first goalkeeper to be worked, diving at the feet of Jake Hyde as he cut in from the bye-line.

However, Welling looked the more lively and went ahead on fourteen minutes when Thierry Audel rose to head home powerfully from Gavin McCallum’s corner.

Two minutes later, Welling scored again. Brendan Kiernan outpaced Josh Casey and crossed to Audel and his spectacular volley from twenty yards flew in off the far post with Woking goalkeeper Craig Ross again a spectator.

Casey went some way towards retribution when pulling back for Christian Jolley to reduce the arrears four minutes later and they came close to levelling soon after.

Anthony Acheampong cleared off the line before recovering to block a goal-bound shot from Moussa Diarra.

Armani Little had a free kick deflected wide before Welling reclaimed control. Zack Newton went on a good run and drew a defender before giving Bradley Goldberg a shooting opportunity but he fired his effort beyond the far post.

Another Little free kick was saved easily by Wilks before Welling increased their lead. Kiernan flicked a long ball out to Goldberg and he got passed Casey with comparative ease before crossing. Although it came over behind Kiernan, he controlled it and fired on the turn into the top corner.

Soon after half time, Goldberg went on a great run and cut in. After nutmegging Diarra, he chose to shoot rather than playing back across goal and his effort was deflected into the side netting.

Gavin McCallum had a shot deflected away before his header went wide from a Newton cross as Welling searched for a fourth.

Corner after corner came and went as Welling searched for a fourth. Arnaud Mendy headed out and raced through to get on the end of a good passing move before shooting wide.

Goldberg pulled back to McCallum and he was again off target before Welling came close once more.

Another excellent Welling move ended with Goldberg finding Acheampong and he looked certain to score but a defender got a foot in to divert it over.

Against the run of play, Woking pulled one back. Allassani held it up well before backing his defender away before turning and firing into the top corner from twenty-five yards.

Casey had a shot saved easily as Welling looked as though they were going to see the last fifteen minutes out but it wasn’t to be.

As the game moved into injury time, Harvey Bradbury hit low across the face of goal and Allassani met it to bundle home via the post.

Even in injury time Welling continued to press and Kiernan and Julien Anau both had shots saved and they were forced to settle for a point.
