NEIL Smith is hoping last Saturday's dramatic victory against high-flying Bath City can kick-start Welling's climb up the Blue Square South table.
An 88th minute winner from Tony Sinclair gave the Wings their first home victory of the season and the manager wants the result to act as a springboard for his side.
He said: "I certainly hope it will and it was a massive result for everyone at the club against a side who are on a high after last year's promotion.
"To win so late on was just the icing on the cake and the atmosphere within the squad, even among those who didn't play, was absolutely brilliant afterwards.
"It gave everyone a lift, especially the supporters, and they deserve it."
Smith isn't taking anything for granted and knows his side face an equally difficult task tomorrow evening when they travel to table-topping Lewes.
He explained: "I challenged my players before the Bath game to get two results on the trot against good sides and we are already halfway there.
"It certainly won't be easy, though, because they are absolutely flying at the moment.
"I saw their 1-0 win against Newport on Sunday and thought they were very impressive in the first half.
"They did tire a bit towards the end and with Paul Booth up front, our defence know they are going to have to concentrate because he can get a goal out of nothing."
Ironically, player-manager Smith is Welling's only injury doubt for the journey to Sussex after he picked up a slight thigh strain in training last night.
The boss also revealed he expects to strengthen his squad next week in several areas, but refused to be drawn when asked for more details.
He added: "There will be a few comings and goings, but I can't say any more at the moment."
