Needing to win to keep their slim play-off hopes alive, Welling United completed a solid win over Weston-super-Mare.

After their disappointing performance at Whitehawk, Welling manager Jamie Coyle changed formation by playing a back three and re-introducing Ryan Hall into the side at left wing-back.

It did not take Welling long to go ahead as Callum Driver's cross found Jack Jebb. Although his effort was blocked out by Luke Purnell, Olumide Durojaiye was on hand to bundle home for his second goal in two games.

Driver put a shot wide as Welling tried to turn the screw then Hall met a deep Bradley Goldberg cross with a side-foot volley that flashed the wrong side of the post.

Durojaiye then put Jebb away down the wing and his excellent diagonal ball allowed Jamie Philpot to get behind the Weston back four but he tried a cheeky chip and got it all wrong, allowing Purnell an easy save.

Jarrad Welch belted an effort miles over for Weston before Welling again went close. Goldberg tried his luck with an over-head kick that flew back off the post.

Eventually the pressure told and Welling increased their lead. Hall put over a corner that Jack Parkinson met with a header that left Purnell well beaten.

George Morris-Edwards made a crucial tackle as Goldberg broke through before Jacob Cane blasted over for Weston.

Hall again came close for Welling with a free kick that Purnell tipped round the post then Morris-Edwards sliced over Jebb's cross.

Coyle headed wide from Hall's cross and then Purnell made a stunning save from Goldberg following good work by Philpot.

Bailey Vose made his first save of the match just before the break but he was not troubled unduly by Welch's shot.

Welch had the first shot of the second period but Vose claimed at the second attempt as Kristian Scott closed in.

Tristan Plummer sent a centre across the face of goal but nobody was able to finish before the Seagulls pulled one back. Welch connected cleanly with an effort from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.

However, less than two minutes had passed when Welling restored their two goal advantage. Substitute Adam Coombes sent Jebb away and while Weston screamed for hand-ball, he tucked it away.

Once again Goldberg came close when a clever volley crashed back off the crossbar then Driver sent him away but he shot just wide.

Jake Lee fired well over and Welch shot wide as Weston enjoyed some late possession without creating much.

When Welch headed wide from Jack Goodall's cross, Weston's hopes were gone.

Results elsewhere kept Welling's hopes alive going into Tuesday's match at home to Bath City.
