THE Kent Premier Division Cup took a giant leap forward this week with the completion of Group D and action in the first quarter-final.

Thamesmead Town's emphatic 5-1 win at Tunbridge Wells was plenty to qualify from Group D in second place.

Wells, who would have qualified had they won, took an early lead before a Ross Cable hat-trick, including two penalties, and a Curtis Williams brace sent Mead to a quarter-final date with Erith & Belvedere.

There has already been action in the quarter-finals as Beckenham Town fell 2-1 to Hythe Town.

Ian Hayes had Hythe ahead at Eden Park Avenue on 33 minutes before Steve McKenzie levelled for Beckenham with 13 minutes left.

However, with extra time looming, Hythe's Will Dunlop bagged a 90th-minute winner.

The second quarter-final, between Whitstable Town and Faversham Town, scheduled for midweek was postponed.

There was one Kent League Premier Division match on Monday night.

Glenn McTaggart scored the only goal in Erith Town's 1-0 win over Slade Green.

The result lifts Erith off joint-bottom although the teams around them have at least two games in hand.
