Jake Cooper has backed Millwall’s strikers to regain their scoring touch.

Steve Morison, Lee Gregory, Tom Elliott and Fred Onyedinma have scored just four league goals between them this season.

Morison, Gregory and Elliott were prolific in League One last term, while Onyedinma played out wide.

And Millwall defender Cooper reckons the quartet will start finding the net to push the 19th-placed Lions away from relegation danger.

Cooper, who is expected to line-up alongside Shaun Hutchinson against Sheffield United on Saturday, told News Shopper: “The strikers are great lads.

“The strikers and attacking players we have here, they’re also great players.

“There’s no reason why they can’t score goals at this level, they proved they can score goals last season.

“So definitely, I’d back them to start scoring.”

Elliott was signed by Millwall boss Neil Harris in the summer after scoring 13 times for AFC Wimbledon last season.

Onyedinma, who has been transformed into a number nine, and Elliott have brought much-needed competition to the Lions’ frontline.

Cooper, 22, said: “It’s good. The games come thick and fast in this league, so you need a good squad around you.

“With the international breaks, it pushes games together, so we have to use our squad and the players have to be willing to play a lot of games.

“There has to be competition for places otherwise it’s not really healthy for the squad.”

Millwall are on a six-game winless run and next up is in-form Sheffield United.

Harris’ men were denied three points by goalkeeping errors at Sunderland and hit the woodwork in narrow defeats to Burton and Fulham.

Cooper believes Millwall’s luck will change soon.

He added: “The confidence in the group is good - we’ve picked up quite a few draws against big teams.

“But we’re a bit disappointed we haven’t turned some of them into wins.

“We’ve played well, no team has really knocked the stuffing out of us. It’s just about getting a bit of luck and finishing some of our chances.

“We’re against the luck at the moment but we believe we can turn it around and hopefully get games where a bit of luck will come our way.”
