A first-half Oliver Norwood penalty was enough to give Fulham all three points in a closely contested London derby at Craven Cottage.

The defeat means it’s now six Sky Bet Championship games without a win for the Lions and are now just five points above the relegation zone.

Neil Harris made two changes from Tuesday’s draw with Hull City, as Steve Morison and Fred Onyedinma were reinstated into the starting XI with Aiden O’Brien and Lee Gregory dropping to the bench.

The first chance of the game fell to Millwall and they were inches from taking an early lead as Tom Elliott climbed highest, but was denied by a combination of David Button and the post after good work from Conor McLaughlin.

It took the hosts 17 minutes to register their first attempt on target and it nearly resulted in the opening goal, but Jordan Archer superbly tipped Sheyi Ojo’s curling effort round the post.

The first clear-cut chance of the afternoon fell Fulham’s way as Tom Cairney’s pin-point pass put Neeskens Kebano in the clear, but he was denied by a brilliant last-ditch tackle from McLaughlin.

Elliott headed Shane Ferguson’s cross wide for the far post and the latter blazed wide as Millwall began to grow into the game.

Despite that pressure, Fulham took the lead on the stroke of half-time. McLaughlin pulled back Rui Fonte from a corner and referee Peter Tierney needed no second invitation to point to the spot.

Norwood slammed home the resulting penalty to give Fulham a half-time lead.

Millwall started the second-half with much more intensity and started to create chances as firstly Morison headed wide and then Button blocked Onyedinma’s close-range effort.

Fulham should have doubled their lead just minutes later, but Ojo couldn’t get a proper connection on Ryan Sessegnon’s knockdown and Archer gathered.

George Saville was inches from helping himself to his seventh Championship goal of the season, but his stunning long-range effort struck the post.

The Lions had a series of set-pieces late in the game, but were unable to break down a stubborn Fulham backline and remain winless on the road this season.
