The pinnacle of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance winter season is the Founders Cup final, played between Hustlers A and Falconwood Club, who finished second and fourth, respectively in the Premier Division.

It was a thrilling final that went all the way with some great pool being played, especially in the first two sets.

Both teams were going for and getting early finishes but it was Falconwood who took an early lead by 3 frames to 2 in the first set.

The match was poised at four all when Kieran Evans made a superb cannon on a red to develop the black when the frame looked dead and buried and he went on to win it, putting Falconwood, 5-4 up.

Dean James nicked the final frame of the set to give Falconwood a, 6-4 lead but Tony Gear, Adam Coppen and Jordan O’Connor won the first three frames of the last set to give Hustlers the lead for the first time since the first frame.

James won his third frame of the night to tie the match again, leaving Micky Clayton and Evans to contest the final frame decider.

Evans took out a controlled clearance to win his second frame of the night, the match and the cup by, 8 frames to 7 for Falconwood.

As well as James and Evans being unbeaten for Falconwood, Hustlers Gear and Coppen also scored unbeaten hat-tricks.

The inaugural League Cup final was also played this week between two of the most in form teams in the SLKPA, Bellegrove Social Club, unbeaten winners of Division One and the unbeaten Division Two champions, Sharks.

Even though there was a whole division between the two the fact that both teams went through the league season unbeaten ensured that this final would be an exciting one.

Kevin Webster took the first frame for Sharks but Dave Jandu, winner of the first division rankings, equalised with a break and dish that never looked on the cards.

After that Bellegrove failed to take their chances and Sharks made the most of this taking the first set, 4-1.

The second set was much closer, swinging one way then the other before Sharks eventually took it, 3-2, needing just one more frame from the final set for victory.

Bellegrove’s Martin Hession played his first frame of the night and won it to delay the Sharks celebrations with Steve Pearce doing the same in the next frame to bring the score back to, 7-5.

Eventually Jeff Laporte won his third frame of the night to give the Division Two champions the League Cup and Division Two double.

As well as Laporte, Arif Salih and Eno Idiong were unbeaten with two frame wins each and Kevin Webster won his only frame.

Congratulations to Sharks and Falconwood Club and all the other teams that have won something this season, all that remains is to decide this season’s SLKPA Singles and Pairs champions.
