Emmanuel Adebayor rejected several offers from abroad before joining Crystal Palace.
The 31-year-old striker had approaches from Turkey and China but wanted to prove himself in the Premier League, according to Togo head coach Tom Saintfiet.
Adebayor was released by Tottenham in September but now has a chance to reignite his career in South London.
Swansea lead race to seal forward transfer – report
Swansea lead the race to sign Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle, who is expected to leave the Eagles during the January transfer window.
The former Peterborough star, 26, has only made 10 appearances for Palace this season.
Several top flight and Championship clubs are keen to secure Gayle’s signature but Swansea have emerged as frontrunners to complete a deal.
Palace linked with Championship midfielder – report
The Eagles have been linked with a move for Hull City midfielder Mohamed Diame, who enjoyed a spell in the Premier League with West Ham.
Diame, 28, signed for the Tigers in September 2014 and has been a central figure in the club’s stunning start to the season.
Despite reported interest from Palace, Hull boss Steve Bruce is reluctant to let the Senegal international leave as he looks to maintain their promotion push.
