Mark Marshall believes Charlton’s current squad is capable of a top-six finish.

The Addicks ended an eight-game winless league run after beating Oldham thanks to Stephy Mavididi’s stunning solo effort on Saturday.

Charlton signed Mavididi on loan from Arsenal last week and the attacker could be the first and last player through the door this month as Valley owner Roland Duchatelet looks to sell the club.

And with injured stars Chris Solly, Jason Pearce, Jake Forster-Caskey and Tariqe Fosu expected to return in the next few weeks, Charlton winger Marshall is confident about the second half of the campaign.

He said: “Yeah, we can definitely finish in the top six with our current squad. If you look at all the injuries we've got, when these players come back, there will be reasons to be cheerful.

“We’ve got loads of quality. We’ve got Tariqe to come back, we’ve got the other players to come back, and ultimately, they’ll be like new signings.

“I’m a very positive person - you don't want to focus on the negatives. We have what we have. We have a good team and we’ve just got to build.

“The Oldham win is hopefully the start of something new. We can get to where we want to go by playing hard and everyone coming together. If we get new players, that’s a bonus, but we’ve got to work with what we have.

“I can’t say to you we’ll be down in the dumps if we don't get new signings. We need to work hard and we need to graft.

“Hopefully everything can go in the right direction. That’s what everyone wants.”

Charlton are just one point from the play-offs.

Marshall, who signed a two-year deal after leaving Bradford last summer, has enjoyed a run in the side at the expense of Fosu.

The young winger hasn't played since injuring his quad in November.

Marshall, 30, added: “We've had a lot of injuries and you need a flow to get consistency.

“There’s been a lot of chopping and changing because of the injuries. Hopefully when everyone comes back and people are battling [for places], the gaffer can get a flow.

“When he has that flow, whether it’s myself or someone else, you’ve got to come in and chip in.

“It’s crazy how we've gone eight games without a win and we’re still only a point off the play-offs. So it’s nothing to get disheartened about.

“We need the fans and everyone to get behind us and hopefully we can kick on from here.”
