Karl Robinson says Charlton are trying to sign an attacking midfielder to replace Billy Clarke.

The Irish playmaker has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

It leaves Ben Reeves as the club’s only recognised number 10.

Robinson has made no secret of his desire to bring in two strikers next month.

But when asked if he’ll also target players in Clarke’s position, the Valley boss told News Shopper: “Yeah, definitely.

“Billy Clarke has been one of our main players this season and we’ve lost him. That’s where it might affect [our transfer plans] slightly.

“I’m absolutely gutted about his injury. I’ve been speaking to him regularly on the phone.

“He’s been a really good signing for us, he’s one of the hardest working players I’ve ever worked with.

“He was a catalyst for all of our good play [at the beginning of the season].”

Charlton have won just once in six league games and host Blackpool on Saturday.

Robinson won’t be able to call on crocked first-teamers Clarke, Tariqe Fosu, Jake Forster-Caskey, Ricky Holmes, Ahmed Kashi and Patrick Bauer.

Injuries have been plaguing Charlton throughout the season, but Robinson is refusing to complain about the situation.

He said: “It’s not something I’ve moaned about to anybody.

“It’s football - it’s no one’s fault. We’re not trying to make excuses.

“The injuries have probably happened because players care too much that they put their body under stress.

“So I’m not getting too worried and all I care about is getting the result on Saturday. We know how hard it’s going to be.”
