‘Tis the season to be jolly… unless your name is Josh Magennis.

Charlton’s first-choice and only fully fit striker is currently enduring a torrid run of form with a lack of goals. He’s scored just once in 13 games for club and country.

The question is why? Lack of focus, desire or tactics that don’t offer the best service to the striker? No one can question his ability and desire for the cause.

He has been a proven goalscorer for the Addicks in the last season and a half and his passion can be seen when he scores, and his desire to do well can be seen chasing down defenders and goalkeepers.

Ability for the striker is not an issue - what other Charlton player has scored against world champions Germany? He may not take every chance that comes his way, but I'm confident he'll give us a decent goal tally for the season to help us win promotion.

The grumbling on social media about how he’s a “waste of space” and wanting to bring Nicky Ajose back - I’m sorry but sit back and look at the whole picture unless you’re just fishing for abuse.

I’d rather have a striker who wants to be at the club than someone who’d rather play for Bury… yes… League One basement boys Bury.

The level of service to Magennis hasn't been great due to the lack of creativity from the players behind him in recent weeks.

We had a glimpse of what sort of danger we can cause from the wings with Mark Marshall and Ricky Holmes crossing the ball a few times in the 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth and this is where Magennis is going to flourish.

Get off his back and get behind him - he will score goals and hopefully with a new signing up front in January this will push him to be even better.
