Charlton boss Karl Robinson believes Ezri Konsa is the best young centre-back in the country.
Konsa, who has been linked with Arsenal and Everton, had a tough time against Rochdale striker Calvin Andrew in the 2-1 win at the Valley.
But Robinson has defended his 19-year-old star defender.
He told News Shopper: “I had a bit of a go at Ez at half-time. He is the best in the league at stepping out.
“He’s got to step out and drive – he’s the best young centre-back in the country. There is nobody at his age better than Ezri Konsa.
“Everyone in the Premier League is looking at him – stand up and show them how good you are, believe in your talents, believe how good you are.
“He looks like he doesn’t care sometimes, but he loves the game. He needs to really let that talent flourish. If he does, he’ll be a top Premier League defender.
“He needs to believe in himself – I’m harder on him than most players because the ceiling for him is higher for most. I need to make sure he doesn’t drop below those standards.”
