ADDICKS defender Michael Morrison insists Charlton were good value for their win over Brentford on Monday, and believes there won't be any pressure on his side when they face Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The summer signing scored his third goal of the season in all competitions with the opening goal against the Bees, and revealed the goal came at a good time when both teams were scrapping for a clear opportunity.

"I think as the ball came out, Danny Hollands was challenging for the header, and I knew he was good in the air, so as the ball has come through, it took a split second because he looked at me and I looked at him," said Morrison.

"The ball just sat there and didn't bounce high enough for their goalkeeper to come and really take it, so it sat really nicely for me.

"I've seen him coming so I've just tried to get something on the ball and over the top of him - I was fortunate it went in.

"At that time, it was quite tight, both teams had the ball but not really going anywhere - chances were few and far between.

"Sometimes it takes a goal out of nothing for a team to push on, and after that I thought it settled us down a little bit and we started the second-half well.

"We scored again late, but I thought we looked solid throughout."

Chris Powell's men had suffered a cruel 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient just 48 hours before, but the centre-half paid tribute to his teammates, especially to a couple of new faces coming in to stake a claim in the starting XI.

"Obviously we were disappointed with the result (against Orient) and the sending off, it would have always made it difficult and an uphill battle as soon as Ben (Hamer) went off," said the stopper.

"It was a good reaction, that's what we were looking for, and that's what we got against Brentford. It was hard grind over the last two days and we've shown what we're made of.

"We changed a few faces which is good that we're able to do that, not a lot of teams would have been able to change it with the amount of quality we have, and the lads that played again put in a good shift.

"Around this time of the year it can be a grind and I'm sure it wasn't the prettiest game, and I'm sure plenty more football will be played, but at the end of the day it's about the three points and we got them.

One of those new faces to appear in the starting line-up, and alongside Morrison in the heart of the Addicks defence, was Leon Cort, and Morrison believes the Guyana international did a sterling job at the back.

"Leon is an experienced player and he knows the game, and he's played at the highest level," expressed Morrison.

"He can help me off the pitch as well and he's a good player. He's had to be patient for an opportunity and he did very well."

With no league action for Charlton until January 14th against fellow promotion chasers Sheffield Wednesday, the attention now turns to the FA Cup clash at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

And the defender is looking forward to testing his ability against Premier League quality.

"It's nice to not have the pressure going there - the pressure is on Fulham to win the game and we'll have a breather from the league," beamed the 23-year-old.

"We'll sit there in the league a few points clear like we wanted to be, and we'll try and go out there and hopefully make a good account of ourselves.

"We haven't really spoken about it as players ourselves because of the hectic period of games lately, but now we'll have a good chat about it - we'll be looking forward to playing against some of the best players in the country."
