CRYSTAL Palace’s win over Bristol City was well deserved according to Eagles boss Dougie Freedman, depite the final score only being 1-0.

A late Glenn Murray penalty sealed the Eagles’ second win in a row and extended their unbeaten run to four games.

But it was a match Palace dominated from start to finish and they easily could have had more to show against a poor Bristol City side.

Freedman reflected: “I thought it was a game where we controlled most of the chances and most of the possession.

“Defensively we were very solid, we kept at it, kept passing our way through them and we got a break with the penalty. We took it well and hung on for the last 10 minutes.

“We kept on going and we made positive substitutions with young Johnny Williams coming on and I think that over the 90 minutes we were the team that deserved to win the game.”

The Palace boss also believes his team’s defensive strength has been a major factor in their impressive early season form..

He explained: “We looked very solid tonight and I haven’t seen in the last couple of games Watford or Bristol City creating too many chances.

“As a forward player it gives you more confidence when your back six are looking nice and strong.

“It gives you confidence to go and try things you wouldn’t normally try.

“A lot of hard work goes into defending and we’re doing it very well at the moment.”

The decisive penalty decision was a cause of anger for City’s caretaker boss Steve Wigley but although Freedman hadn’t seen the replay, he was adamant it was the correct decision and laughed off his opposite number’s protests.

“Every manager would say that,” he laughed when told of Wigley’s protests.

“Williams has run into the box and used his quick feet and the defender has put his leg out and made contact with him.

“Johnny Williams has fantastic quick feet and when he gets in the area it’s very difficult to defend against and he won the penalty and we scored it.”
