DOUGIE Freedman is hopeful Crystal Palace’s travel woes could be a thing of the past as the Eagles matched last season’s total number of points picked up away from home with a 2-0 win at Watford on Saturday.

Freedman’s side endured a miserable record away from SE25 last term but have so far picked up three wins on the road, including being the first side to beat bitter rivals Brighton at their new home in the league.

The Palace boss had no remedy for the club’s woes on the road last year but has obviously found a fix over the summer and has explained the reasons behind the improvement in form so far this year.

He admitted the main cause of their poor away form was a lack of quality in the final third.

Freedman revealed: “Last year I studied certain games and I felt some of our performances were very good but we just didn’t have that quality in the final third.

“We added Glenn Murray and having Wilfried Zaha and Sean Scannell, who are starting to chip in with goals, all of a sudden we’re turning good performances away from home into wins.”

Freedman also believes the spirit within the camp has been a major factor in the club’s success so far and there is even more to come as his summer acquisitions continue to bed in to their new surroundings.

He said: “That’s the only way you can get success.

“The backroom staff and I talk about it every day and we try to put it in to them that we feel that if we are going to get somewhere, we’ve got to get somewhere together and that’s starting to come.

“It’s still very early.

“We’ve got four or five new signings who are still trying to find their feet and with Johnny Parr and Mile Jedinak away on international duty and coming back, there’s still a long way to go but we are on the right path.”
