Millwall and Peterborough produced a four-goal thriller at The Den tonight in which Kenny Jackett's men were 2-0 up only to throw away the lead in the space of three minutes.

Goals either half from Liam Trotter and Hamer Bouazza looked to have sealed the points for the home side, only for Posh to steal the show with two goals in three minutes in a remarkable comeback.

And it was the visitors had the first real chance of the match after five minutes when Tommy Rowe brought the ball down just inside the penalty area and despite having a bit of space and time, he shot well over David Forde's goal.

But just a minute later it was the home sides' turn through James Henry, who curled a free-kick around the wall from 25 yards out forcing a good low save from Posh custodian Paul Jones.

The away side nearly took the lead on 12 minutes through Rowe when the home defence were caught napping by Lee Tomlin, but the midfielder's shot was blocked by Lions captain Paul Robinson inside the danger area.

And Posh were unlucky not to take the lead moments later when Forde failed to deal with a corner before George Boyd angled a shot towards goal only to see his effort crash back off the far post.

It was a let-off for the Lions, who hadn't started in their usual fast-paced manner as Darren Ferguson's men were beginning to ask the questions early on.

Grant McCann burst forward into the Lions half on 20 minutes before launching a stinging drive from a full 30 yards which Forde took no chances with.

Kenny Jackett's men almost responded through Darius Henderson whose header towards goal was pushed away by Jones following a Bouazza free-kick, before the former Fulham and Watford man had a go himself with a shot on goal after a burst into the area.

Bouazza went close on 29 minutes from the edge of the area, teeing the ball up on to his thunderous left boot, but again, Jones was equal to it, getting down low to palm the ball away.

The home side were upping the ante and they got the opening goal just after the half hour mark through Trotter.

Good work from Henderson on the left saw the former Watford striker pick out Trotter from 12 yards, who had time and space to place his shot past the outstretched arm of Jones.

Perhaps it was a little harsh on Posh, but the Lions had begun to take control of the match after a slow start.

Trotter nearly grabbed his second of the match on the stroke of half time with a dipping volley from 20 yards out, but Jones pulled off a stunning save to push the ball around the post as the Lions went into the break a goal to the good.

Just five minutes into the second period and Posh nearly got an equaliser when McCann's free-kick bent over the Lions wall but Forde got across in time to see the ball to safety.

But Millwall extended their lead shortly after through winger Bouazza, who collected a pass inside the penalty area before using his opposite foot to drill a shot past Jones into the far corner.

It was a good time to score for Jackett's men who had started the second half a lot better than the first.

Tomlin nearly reduced the deficit for Peterborough almost immediately, when he curled a shot towards Forde's far post from the edge of the area, but the ball took a slight deflection on its way for a corner.

It was nearly three for the Lions on 64 minutes when Jimmy Abdou collected a pass just inside the danger area, but his goal bound shot was blocked by Posh substitute Paul Taylor.

Just when the natives were getting comfortable with the lead, the away side grabbed a goal back after a long ball forward from the Posh defence on 73 minutes.

Lee Frecklington was the man to reduce the scoreline, bringing a ball forward down before cooly shooting past Forde from just inside the danger area.

Just moments later it was all action at both ends which led to a dramatic equaliser for Posh.

Lions midfielder Trotter thought he had extended the Lions lead when his placed shot from the edge of the area was superbly tipped on to the post by goalkeeper Taylor, before the away side broke forward in numbers with substitute striker Taylor running at the home defence before shooting low past Forde from outside the box.

The Den was shellshocked as Ferguson's men had completed an amazing comeback in the space of three minutes.

Captain Robinson nearly regained the lead for the Lions on 86 minutes but his header from Bouazza's corner just cleared the bar by a number of inches, before Henry also tried his luck but couldn't keep his header down from 12 yards.

Josh McQuoid made his long-awaited return from injury from the bench and nearly grabbed a winner for Jackett's side, but his scuffed shot from the edge of the area went the wrong side of the post as the match went into stoppage time.

Bouazza thought he had won it for the Lions shortly after when he created space for himself outside the box before finding a return pass from McQuoid, only to see his shot superbly tipped around the post from Taylor.

Henry had the last chance of a pulsating match, collecting a pass out on the left before turning the ball on to his right foot and curling a shot towards goal which sailed narrowly over.
