DANNY Hollands feels he has made the right career move in every sense by joining Charlton.

Hollands lives within a reasonable commute to The Valley, something which influenced his decision to leave Bournemouth after five successful years.

But following the Addicks’ 3-0 curtain-raising win over his old club, Hollands explained the transfer was motivated professionally as well as personally.

“I had five great years at Bournemouth and I’d never change a thing,” the 25-year-old said.

“We’ve had ups and downs there but I felt it was the right time in my life to move on.

“There are personal issues involved, I’ve got kids due and I needed to be nearer to my family but it was a football decision as well as Charlton are a big club who are looking to get promoted.

“I felt it was a fresh challenge and hopefully it will have been the right decision, but only time will tell.”

The Chelsea academy graduate admitted he faces stiff competition from his team-mates to do so, adding: “I will have to do my bit and chip in with some goals as it is a team game.

“I will do my bit defensively, but I’m looking to get on the end of the things, as well as score goals.

“Over the last five years I’ve always scored some goals and I expect to do the same this year, but the main thing for me is to keep a place in the team because there’s a lot of competition in the squad.

“There’s some great players who’ve also been signed, so it will be hard for me to keep my place not just in the team but on the bench as well.”

Hollands’ decision to join manager Chris Powell's new squad in SE7 was boosted by the signing of his Cherries team-mate Rhoys Wiggins and the battling midfielder think his left-back comrade will do well for the Addicks.

He said: “Both sets of fans know what Rhoys is like. He gets forward down the flank, he had good delivery in the final third and he can defend.

“All in all he’s a very good full-back and a good asset to the squad and it’s great Charlton have signed him for three years.”
