A COLFE’S student returned home with a bronze medal from the British schools judo championships.

Year 12 pupil Charlie Whittaker enjoyed a podium finish after placing third in the U55kg category for Year 12 and Year 13 competitors.

Whittaker was mainly fighting against boys who were heavier and older than him.

After losing his first bout to the eventual gold medallist, the Colfe’s ace fought his way through the repecharge and remained undefeated on his way to securing bronze.

Leonardo Bertocchi of Year 8 also represented Colfe’s in the Year 8 and Year 9 event, again fighting boys older than himself.

Meanwhile, fellow Colfe’s pupil Tom Chapman represented the England U17 rugby team against France earlier this month in Brive.

He has been training with the England academy squad all season and despite a strong performance, it was France who won the match 18-12.

Chapman then went on to join the squad for the game with Scotland at Leeds on April 10, which the Three Lions lost 30-10.

The Colfe’s student has been a member of the Saracens academy since he was spotted playing for Kent U14s.

All of the Premiership clubs have a catchment area allocated to them and Kent falls under the administration of Saracens.

Chapman has been a member of Colfe’s first XV for two years, making the scrum half position his own this season.

Colfe’s have recently been involved in the Rosslyn Park national sevens competition, where they won their group against Rugby School, Canford School and Magdalene College.

Chapman has also played for Old Colfeians first XV in London League One this season alongside his older cousin Oliver.

His younger brother Henry has been selected for this year’s Kent U14 squad.

Chapman is also a keen athlete and competed in last year’s London schools track & field championships in both the 100m and 200m.
