CHRIS Solly last week agreed a new two-year deal with Charlton.

Manager Chris Powell said: “He’s a very clever footballer, a good defender and he can play in midfield.

“He’s a player who has been unlucky with injuries but I’m thinking about the future and I want him involved in our plans.”

CARL Jenkinson’s refusal to sign a new contract with Charlton saw the promising defender omitted from the Addicks’ recent games against Southampton and AFC Bournemouth.

Charlton chairman Michael Slater announced last Wednesday that Jenkinson had declined a new and significantly improved contract, saying: “We’ve worked hard to convince Carl that he would be a key figure in Chris Powell’s plans but, regrettably, Carl will not sign the contract and has indicated that he wishes to leave the club at the end of the season.”

STRIKER Paul Benson served the final game of his four-match suspension on Saturday and is available for selection for tonight’s match against Rochdale at Spotland.

However, Matt Fry last week returned to West Ham United following the end of his latest loan spell after the match against Dagenham & Redbridge on March 19.

The 20-year-old appeared 32 times for Charlton in 2010/11.

The Addicks signed the ex-Manchester United man on a short-term deal on March 22.

“He’s good on the ball and he can tackle,” said Powell.

“If he makes an impact, there may be something there for him.”
