TALKS to keep star striker Steve Morison at The Den are going well, according to manager Kenny Jackett.

The Lions goal machine has been linked with a string of clubs this season but now it looks increasingly likely the player will kill the rumours of an exit by penning a new two-year deal soon.

Jackett told News Shopper: “Things look good at the moment.

“We will see how things go on that one but he deserves an extension because he has done very well for us.”

It was a quiet transfer deadline day for Millwall in the end on Monday with Jackett happy to have completed his January dealing before the weekend by snapping up Hameur Bouazza on a loan deal.

The boss added: “We did some business on the Friday where we had Hameur Bouazza over for a medical and decided even though he had some recovering to do it was worth us taking him in and waiting for him to be fit in a couple of weeks time.

“I was pleased to get that one done and take him on until the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, Jackett has not ruled out the possibility of Marc laird going out on loan again following the midfielder’s return from Brentford.

He said: “Marc Laird has come back from Brentford after his loan ended and they decided not to extend it. I don’t know if he will go out on loan again when the window reopens.

“We haven’t got an awful lot of players. Chris Hackett was ill the other night and didn’t make the trip to Norwich, although I’m hopeful he will be ok for Saturday.”

Jackett added: “We are bang on the 18 and Marc is an experienced member of our squad at the age of 25, so it is a toss up for myself.

“I’m quite happy to have people around and you do need a group and a squad at a club.

“On the other hand, if they are sitting on the subs bench and not getting games it is right they should want to go out and play.

“We will see and assess that when the loan window opens next week.”
