KENNY Jackett was delighted to see his Millwall side continue their impressive start to the new season with a thumping 4-0 win over Hull City at The Den on Saturday.

Goals from Kevin Lisbie, Liam Trotter and a double from Steve Morison ensured the Lions’ first Championship home game in four years ended with a comfortable victory over a disappointing Hull side.

Backed by a vociferous home crowd, Millwall were two clear within half an hour.

Morison and home debutant Lisbie both profited from superb crosses from James Henry before the winger teed-up Morison for his second shortly after the interval.

Henry then presented Trotter with a simple tap-in from three yards on the hour to round off a fine display from the Lions.

“That was a really good performance and I’m really pleased with the start to the season,” said Jackett.

“It gives us optimism for the future and something to build on but I’m certainly very pleased with the players’ efforts and application in our first home game in four years at this level.”

The victory put Millwall on top of the Championship table but Jackett was cautious to keep his players’ feet on the ground, insisting thoughts about promotion and play-off places were far from his mind at this stage of the season.

“We’re just looking to work hard for the first dozen games to get a foothold at this level,” he said.

“There has been no long-term goals set.

“At the moment getting a foothold at this level is our only aim.

“We’ve worked hard to achieve this, to be competing at this level.

“In your first home game you want to give the supporters some optimism for the future and I think we’ve done that.

“How we go on from here is another challenge but today was a good day for us and it was a well-deserved win.”
